We enter a new chapter of our ‘In Motion’ collaboration series, introducing @providerstore
Provider Store was established in 2014 and has been creating and acquiring pieces for the home, chosen with the purpose to be both artful and functional. Their aim is to slow down and focus on what’s important, championing sustainably sourced and slow-made products.
Founder of Provider Store, Tara Bennett states “After visiting Japan for the first time many years ago, I was so inspired by the way they celebrate craftsmanship. I think it’s incredibly special that people can master a craft and pass it down through generations. On a small scale, my grandmother taught my mum to sew and my mum taught me to sew. The first ever Provider Product was my hand painted and sewn cushions.
After I returned from this trip, I quit my job and started a website and never looked back.”
Community is an important motive and aspect to @providerstore . Tara also states that “If it wasn’t for community Provider Store wouldn’t exist. I spent so many years working in the store everyday taking everyone’s ears off. I have also lived and worked in Surry Hills for over a decade so it truely feels like home. The people who work for Provider, shop at Provider and just friends of Provider is what has kept us going.”
For future goals and visions @providerstore are about to open Provider House Hobart - an airbnb in Lenah Valley. They collaborated with a lot of our Japanese makers to create things for the house and everything from the knives, towels, cups are all items we sell. Hopefully this year Provider Store will also open a second store.
